We loved the Joshua Jackson-directed episode that tossed it back to "Loveline" days and saw the cracks finally show on Pacey's "too good to be true" job.
We rewatched these episodes:

Joshua Jackson Directed This One
SPEAKER_00And did you notice on the credits in the beginning it said Joshua Jackson directed the episode? No, I didn't see that. Yeah, I had to I had to rewind it on Hulu because I was like, wait a minute. Hello everyone and welcome back to our Dawson's Creek Rewatch here on Generation in Between the Zennial Podcast. I'm Katie and I'm Danny. And we are nearing the end, not just of the sixth season, but of the entire series. This is wild. We only have two episodes left. After well, we're yeah, we're gonna talk about two today, two on the next episode, and two more to watch. We've watched four. We're we're we're we're telling the truth here. I forgot to watch last time. So we had to, I had to watch four in a row. And so we're gonna do we're gonna split it up and do two and two. Right. So today we're talking about season six, episodes 19 and episode 20. Yeah.
Loveline Nostalgia And TV References
SPEAKER_00So 19 is called Love Lines. Uh, here's the description. A benefit session of Love Lines exposes the problems burring between Joey and Eddie, Jen and CJ, and Jack and David. Yes. Oh my god, Dr. Drew and Love Line. I fucking love that show. I really liked this episode. I did too. It was so much fun. It was so much nostalgia. So much. Just forgot how much also I love Dr. Drew. He's Adam Carolla. Oh, he's such a douche. He is. But he that was the point, right? Like the way they kind of like had opposite opposite like personalities. And I remember like people my age thinking Dr. Drew was hot. Oh, I did not. I remember that. And so when Audrey is like attractive man, thinking he's good looking or whatever on the show, I on Dawson's when Audrey was kind of obsessed with him. I was like, Yeah. Well, I mean, he's a smart guy, and I think smartness is always really attractive. So and seemingly sensitive because of the type of work he does, and yeah, yeah, and good looking. All sorts of references in this episode. Brad Pitt, Ian Zeering, obviously Dr. Drew. Yes. Yeah. And did you notice on the credits in the beginning, it said Joshua Jackson, Joshua Jackson directed the episode. No, I didn't see that. Yeah, I had to, I had to rewind it on Hulu because I was like, wait a minute. Yeah. That's so funny that like this episode I loved was Joshua Jackson. He did a great job. He did. And I just wrote, I forgot how disgusting Adam Corolla was. I mean, he's supposed to be, but post- I I assume it's a persona. I hope so. I mean, he was a comedian, right? And I think that was his whole shtick. And was that he's like funny, but he's a little creepy and he's just inappropriate. He's gross. And his voice is creepy. Yeah. And I think he like plays into that. Of course. So that I said the sex talk show format, that used to just be such a thing. I know. Like, of course, it still sort of is in some circles, but like it used to just be like that was the thing. And the radio shows, too. You remember Dr. Laura and Dr. Ruth? And Dr. Ruth. Yes. But Dr. Laura, my sister used to love to listen to her because she was like so just to the point. Yeah. Which I mean, thank goodness, right? It's good. People like they're talking about stuff. Why are you still in that relationship? Don't be an idiot. Like, right. Damn. Damn, Dr. Laura. And um, Delilah. Do you remember Delilah? Delilah. Yes. I wanted to be Delilah so bad. I still might have to figure out a way to be Delilah 2.0 because I mean you can. Yeah. Um, so my husband knows her sort of because he used to do a lot of radio in the late 90s, early 2000s. So he worked the board for some of her shows. And he was telling me, yeah, she like at this point just records everything from her house. She has like a home studio. It's just syndicated everywhere. It's still on. It's a lot of places. I've actually usually obviously now I'm listening to my own music or podcasts or whatever in the car. But every now and then, if for some reason I have the radio on in the evening, she's on still some stations. Go girl. Call in and my letters and all the things. I love Delilah in. Yeah, but that whole like idea, the sex talk show or relationship talk show format was really big.
Jealousy And Blowups On Stage
SPEAKER_00Yeah. It was I put also like, what the fuck? Jack just gave up his seat like before the event even started. Like his boyfriend's seat. He was like, that that good looking guy comes up and he's like, nah, I guess you can see her. I'm like, bitch, it hasn't even started. Yeah. What do you mean? And he was dirty innocent. Yeah. What do you mean? You're just gonna give up that seat. I know. That was a that was a fucked up move, Jack. Jack, that was really stupid. Yeah. And I think he like his whole thing sometimes is Jack hides behind being just being nice. Yeah. But I don't know. I know. Um, I just had Jen's outburst about CJ, but now I don't know what I was talking about. I mean, they all have different ones. I guess on stage she has one. Yeah, because he well, she broke up with him because Grams was sick, which was kind of stupid. Which I was like, what? But then her outburst, too, on a different thing. She like went on this whole thing about how CJ was like the perfect guy and all this stuff. And I'm like, excuse me. He like violent, he was like violent with a friend of yours and also slept with a friend of yours. And he's the perfect guy that you I know. That was weird. That was weird. And I think the whole point was like she was in that outburst trying it. The writers were trying to show she was self-sabotaging. Right. But also all those things you just said. Right. No, there are some reasons your intuition is probably not letting you get closer to this guy. Yeah. Right. And it's not because of like you not wanting to be happy, which I think is what they were trying to set up. Right. So I don't know. I I had in quotes. I thought you wanted me to sing, Audrey. I don't remember why. They had her at the show or something, and she again, I watched this over two weeks ago now, but maybe something about you wanted me to sing. I don't know why, but she said that line somewhere. Maybe because they brought her on stage or I don't it might have been that. Because doesn't she end up on stage? She ends up hosting for a minute. That's what it was. And she said something like, Oh, I thought you wanted me to sing, but she ends up hosting instead. But anyway, but speaking of people being on stage, I gotta say something.
Consent Communication Consequences
SPEAKER_00Dr. Drew, when when Joey and Eddie come up there, uh-huh, Dr. Drew said, if a couple isn't mature enough to talk about sex, should they even be having sex? Thank you. And I wrote the three C's, y'all. Everybody remember what those are? Trademarked by me, Danny Combs. Do you remember them? Number one. I probably don't have them in order, but what do you think? Number one. Communication. No, number one is consent. Well, I was gonna say consent. I just didn't know if it was number one. Communication communication. Consent, communication, and I don't remember the other one. Consequences. Oh yeah. There you go. In that order. Come on, Dr. Drew would be on board. He would be on board. We're gonna write a book. We're gonna write a book. We'll send it to you. I mean, he gonna write a book and I'm gonna give him an idea. There you go. I loved the question asking montage where the people from the audience were just asking normal and kind of outlandish questions. It was like boom, boom, boom, boom. I thought that was a good one. Some of the questions, I remember even thinking this when I used to watch Love Lines. Some of the questions people be saying asking, like, I got this rash that's pussy on my privates. It's like, you gonna be on TV saying that? Yeah. I'd be hiding behind that screen, you too. Like the silhouette. Yeah. What do you mean? Yeah. Some of those questions. Oh my gosh. Also, I said, did the writers just never figure out who Eddie was as a character? Because I swear he's different every episode. And in this one, he says he's 25. 25. When? When have you been 25? I mean, I just guess the whole time. I think they just didn't know who he was this whole time. Yeah. That's all I got. I said, is David overreacting about it? I mean, I get it. Yeah. I mean, well, I think the thing that that really pissed him off was like he had already talked to him about feeling kind of jealous. And then instead of Jack being sensitive to it, he was just like, okay, well, I'm sorry that you overreacted, which I hate that kind of apology. Is like you're not really sorry. You're just sorry, I'm mad. Right. You're like, yeah. And I think that's what David got the most upset about. I'm telling you this bothers me. Even if it's outlandish, like I'm still bothered by it. And like, yeah. Yeah, I agree. And then I said Audrey's chat at the end with Dr. Drew is sweet. Oh, I know. And funny when she's kind of like hitting on him, but then says something about like his wife or whatever. And he's like, you know, going home to see her or whatever. And she was like, well, well, I kind of like got to meet my crush, you know. And it's just very good. I just love Audrey. She's adorable. I know. She's here. All right, moving on. All right.
Catch-22 Chaos Eddie And Pacey Spiral
SPEAKER_00So season seven, episode 20 is Season six. Why did I write I wrote seven for literally everything? Did you really? Yeah. You're manifesting a season seven. I don't know. I love it. All right. So it's called Catch 22. Um, as Eddie surprises Joey with an elaborate end of your gift, Pacey's dreams come crashing down on the heels of a favorite stocks meltdown. Yeah. And I wrote, why is Pacey being so gross? In the beginning, like he's talking to those kids. It's like, ew. I mean, I think you're supposed to be like, what are you doing? Yeah, you're supposed to be like, uh-oh, now you've like made the full transformation. Right. Yeah. And then on the flip side, I said, How did Eddie pay for a trip to Europe when he said he had to live in his car all summer? Yeah. What? I can't figure anything in that storyline out. I just couldn't. Cannot. Uh I just said Pacey and the journalist lady at dinner, uh, Sadia, I think was her name. I don't remember. Yeah. I don't know. Do we ever like, does she ever come back after the stocks crash and stuff? I don't know. I don't know either. I think so. And then I said uh the catch 20, oh, catch 22, like being the book that they have to study for. Yeah, it was kind of fun. That was fun. And then I just said I hate the term feminine wiles. Oh, I know. We're like, you use your feminine wiles. That's creepy. I don't know if it was Eddie talking to Joey or Pacey talking to Joe. She said it to Eddie. Oh, I'll use my feminine wiles to convince you to whatever else. Yeah. Yeah. I I don't know. I hate that. I know it's stupid. Um I I did write in this episode that Jack's boyfriend is being kind of too jealous in this episode. Yeah. Like I was with you all before, but now you're being a little much. Yeah, a little too overbearing. Yeah. And then I said Pacey announcing that he had sex with a beautiful woman. That was that same thing with like the room of the new people, like him just being like, and guess what I just did last night. And it's like again, though, you're supposed to be like, ugh, I don't like this part, this side of him. And I just I wrote, What is the point of the girl with Pacey? I don't think there's any point to her character. Well, that's what I was trying to figure out because he he meets her a while back at that party, and she's like, Oh, you're the one I'm hearing about. Right. So then right away I'm thinking, oh, is she like undercover trying to figure out like FTC like insider trading or something? But then it turns out she's a journalist. So I'm like, okay, is she gonna uncover something big? Yeah, yeah, yeah. But like, not really. He the stock he tries to sell doesn't do well, and that's what comes to the demise, but then she's not back. Yeah. So what was the point of her? I think they just need a hot girl, and she was hot, but I think that was it. Oh remember blue books for college examples? Yes. Ah go into the bookstore on your way to take a test. Gotta get you a blue book. Bless. I said David has ended up being annoying. I know. What you're just saying. Um Joey says one writer's grave per country when her and Eddie are talking about the European trip. Oh. And how like that's something she would want to do. Go visit one at least one writer's grave in each country. I mean, if if I knew a writer was buried nearby, I would go. But I don't know that it would like be like a highlight of where I just thought because you like true crime stuff. But I mean but writers don't die because of true crime. Some of them do. That's true. She said no writers die from true crime. They think Edgar Allan Poe was a victim of foul play, and they're still trying to figure that one out. Yeah. Yeah. Well, they probably won't at this point, everybody. Probably not. It's like Jack the Ripper. Ugh. Although they might have figured that out. But anyway. Okay. I said, Joey always be leaving every summer with a boy. For real. It's like, let's go on a boat all summer. Bye. Let's go to Europe for the summer. Bye. She doesn't go, but still. But like, hello. And then when she had the chance to go to Paris, she didn't on her own. But anyway. Well, we find out later. We find out later. I put Lord Pacey always with the hitting. I know. I said always fucking hitting people. I did say kind of glad Pacey hit his boss. I mean, yeah. Yes, but still, like, um violence is not the answer, guys. I know. Although I did tell Katie the other day, I was like, I would have punched somebody. She did say that. Because she said somebody when she was in a high school production of Greece, the person that she had to kiss slipped a tongue in her mouth one night during a show. That deserves a punch in the face. Yeah. Or a kick and a crotch. Yeah. Because come on, you don't do that. No. That ain't cool. Not cool. So there you go. Hitting would have been okay there. Yeah. Um Eddie's goodbye note. What did you think about that? I don't even remember what it says. So I think she just like left. She decided to go with him.
unknownYeah.
SPEAKER_00And then he just leaves. Yeah. And is like, which is very similar to who was the girl that was with Dawson? Oh, Pacey's sister.
unknownYeah.
SPEAKER_00When like he's packing to go with her, and then there's this note like, I left without you, Dawson, and here's why. Eddie basically does the same thing to Joey, which I am glad she didn't go, but like, because now she's gotta go to Capeside, and that leads into all of the other where were these two episodes where Pacey shows up at his brother's door? Is that the next two? It's the next two. Because I he is such an attractive man. And y'all know I told y'all Kersmith has been trying. He wrote a pilot episode for a re not a re what do they call it when a re not a not a redo of a series, but like a continuation. Reboot, kind of like a reboot, but he wants it to be in Caveside and he wants it to be him and Doug's kids as teens and their friends. Right. And you could have like your brother spoilerly show one of the things that happens at the end. Yeah. Oh well, okay. So I only have two episodes left to watch. I wanted to just keep watching. I know. Because I'm like, I'm so close, but I didn't. I was like, we're talking about four different ones today. Okay, I gotta make sure it's not blurred. Um, but I am interested how so many of these storylines are going to because didn't you say the last episode's in the future? Uh-huh. I I So essentially we have one more episode in real time. I'm trying I don't remember how close. Okay. And I don't remember if it's the whole I think it's the whole episode in the future. Yeah. Well, and you kind of got to sneak. Well, we'll we'll talk about that. We'll get
The Stock Crash And Trust Fallout
SPEAKER_00that. But a plot point we didn't really just say, because I know we don't really go over plot, we're just talking about our thoughts, is that the stock that Pacey is a little bit arrogant about and convinces Dawson to put all of Dawson's money in, even though Daws is Dawson wants to sell it. Really? Well, the the fallout, right? Yeah, yeah. But this is the episode where it happened. He didn't tell anybody. Because that's why he punches his boss and stuff. Um, but you really kind of like feel for him, even though like it is one of those things where as you're watching, you know it's gotta be too good to be true and something's gonna give somewhere, whether it's illegal, whether someone's gonna lose money, whether it's whatever. But you also I just remember being young and like naive, and you believe the people around you. And well, we do that now. Definitely. We be too optimistic sometimes. Yeah. Well, or sometimes too pessimistic, one way or the other. Guess who guess who goes which way? And this is this duo. Yeah. But either way is bad. Like you can't expect the worst or expect the best all the time because usually it's gonna be somewhere in the middle. Yeah. And unfortunately for PC, it swung hugely back. Yeah. And that, but that's the risk of investing in stock. Yeah. I mean, it really is for any of us. Mm-hmm. It is, it is. And so it's like Dawson probably had a good intuition to sell it when he did. I know. But then you and it was still his choice, and he could have demanded it. But because his friend, who seemingly knows more about it and who he trusts which he does know more about it. He does. But he's I mean, but also humans make errors. It's like doctors, you can be a genius, but you can have a misdiagnosis, of course. Or we make a mistake during the surgery or something like that. Like it's it's you're just like any other person. Yeah. Yeah. So anyway, um, all right.
