Cold Romance Pet Peeves

SPEAKER_01

Don't do anything cold with me if you try and be romantic. Don't take her on a ski date. Absolutely not. I'm not doing that. Hello, everyone, and welcome back to our Dawson's Creek Rewatch. We are on the last season, which is season six. Today we're gonna chat, and I forgot about uh episodes nine and ten of season six. The first one is Everything Put Together Falls Apart. And I wrote, Who is in charge of these episode titles? These are ridiculous.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, they're not they're not like good. They're not. Spiderwebs was good because you knew exactly that it was gonna be a no doubt. But there's been a few. I'm just like, what?

SPEAKER_01

Yeah. Okay, here's a summary. Spending the night at Eddie's puts Joey at risk of losing her scholarship. Emma agrees to be Pacey's date for an office party, unaware she's been drawn into a hot date contest. So I also

Season Six And Two Wild Plots

SPEAKER_01

put, also, who writes these episode summaries that literally gives away everything? Right. The whole episode.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah. It's like, yeah. Like the hot date thing is part of the plot. Yeah. I know. Well, everyone, if you just want to know what happened, you can stop listening now. You can go. It's done. It's done. Yeah. So the very opening, they're filming whatever Oliver's movie that Dawson's helping with. And they've got that disco scene. Oh, yeah. That was fun. That was very aesthetic. The girl liked cage dancing and like all this stuff.

SPEAKER_01

It was also like such a fake movie scene.

SPEAKER_00

So fake, so fake. But I loved it. They had like one light. Yeah, exactly. That was really funny. And then I said, Why is Joey studying at the bar? And then she kind of explains it. But like, she's like, Who's playing this music? It's loud in here.

SPEAKER_01

And I'm like, girl, why are you at a bar trying to study for a final? I've never in my life seen people study at a bar.

SPEAKER_00

Ne either.

SPEAKER_01

Coffee shop, sure.

SPEAKER_00

Well, right. Little restaurant, whatever.

SPEAKER_01

Bar, she's crazy.

SPEAKER_00

But she said the library was too packed, the dorm was half, people were doing a naked slip and slide. Girl, I'm pretty sure you could find somewhere other than a bar. Yeah. I mean, aren't they in Boston? Could you go to the Boston library? Right. Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

Also, I knew, I knew Joe was gonna miss that exam when she went to that boy's house. And they started making out like, oh, she done. She's it's not gonna happen for her. She's gonna miss it. Yeah. And why you gotta

Fake Movie Set And Bar Studying

SPEAKER_01

she was all pissed at him, but I'm like, bitch, you're the one that went to sleep.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah. And yeah, exactly. And when she grabbed that alarm clock, I know. Instead of like a phone, that was so nostalgic to me to see what time it was. I know.

SPEAKER_01

And you know what is so funny? I remember I had a pink alarm clock, like a wind-up clock. Oh, yeah, yeah. But then when I went to college, I had like a digital clock. But do you remember the panic when you would wake up and the power had gone out or something? Yes. And you're like, I have no idea what time it is. That is like panic mode. Oh, definitely. Yes. Yeah, definitely. Because now we have our phones that always know the time.

SPEAKER_00

Always. And it doesn't have to be plugged in, and you don't even have to be on the internet or anything. Like it's just it just is.

SPEAKER_01

I remember my husband, oh my god, when we first moved in together, he was like paranoid that he was gonna sleep through alarms. He would set this, and he's he is not a light sleeper like me. He would set his watch alarm, his phone alarm, and then a clock alarm that was across the room. But y'all, it wouldn't wake his ass up. It would make me up. And then once I'm awake, once I am awake, there's no going back to sleep. And he just made me so mad when we were both working full time. Well, he was in training, and I had to get up so early. And like I was like, I could have had 20 more minutes of sleep, and like now, oh, it made me so mad.

SPEAKER_00

Anyway, and you know I do get up early, but if there's ever times that like my husband just decided he's gonna get up early or I don't have to get up early, he's the same way. His alarm on his phone, he'll just keep snoozing. Yeah, so then it keeps waking me up every 10 minutes and he's still not getting up. And I'll be like, Sir, sir. Most of the time that doesn't happen because I'm I'm already up when he's trying to get up. But the snooze, I hate that too.

SPEAKER_01

I'm I've never been a snooze hitter because once I hear it, I can't go back to sleep. It's too late. But Troy, Troy used to be a snoozer, he's not anymore because he had to adjust. He had to like Caden be hit and snooze like 10 times. I'm not kidding.

SPEAKER_00

I believe it.

Pacey’s Office Party Hot Date Trap

SPEAKER_00

I believe it. Uh let's see. Oh, I like this line when Pacey's asking Emma to go with him to this work party. She's like, I'm sorry, I can't see you because you're so transparent. Uh-huh. When he walks up and he she's well, first of all, she's scrubbing the toilet, bless her heart. She lives with boys, so you know all about this. And she's like, Did do you know what this is? This is a toilet brush or whatever. And she was all annoyed about it, which valid. And then he's like, Oh, just like trying to make small talk. And then she's like, I can't really see you. You're so transparent. And then yeah, he wanted her to go to this party, which I can't tell if he wanted her to go because he did think he'd win the thousand dollars.

SPEAKER_01

He said that at the end. Oh, at the end. He said, I want he's she's he said, Yeah, I knew about it, and I thought you'd win. Okay, well, that's fair.

SPEAKER_00

I didn't hear that part. I just know she was mad, and then he came back and then we talked about it. I mean, we're skipping a lot, but like them making out the end, I was like, Oh I know, I didn't like that. I don't like the storyline. Yeah, it wasn't my favorite. It wasn't my favorite, but he takes her, he says he'll pay for her dress, which is valid if you're making her go to this thing with you. Would you have ever paid $300 for like a black dress, like what she was wearing? You know, that kind of plain black dress in the past.

SPEAKER_01

That much, you think? I don't know. I can remember spent well, honestly, my wedding dress doesn't even go as much. Mine either. But I mean, there was a time, I think, I mean, probably not $300, but probably two something for formal dresses. I can remember a time, yeah.

SPEAKER_00

I think like depending on the dress, sure. I was just thinking of the dress she had on specifically, just was like a basic one-shouldered black dress. I don't know, that's what made me like $300, but of course they had to make it a really expensive dress because Pacey was buying it, and then she quote unquote ruins it by making it punk. Yeah, and a bunch of safety pins, which is fun. Which he should have known. Like, yeah, come on. Like, let a girl let the girl do her thing. Yeah, she's gonna be herself. Right. That's just what's gonna happen.

Joey And Eddie’s Night Before Finals

SPEAKER_00

Uh oh, the ice skating thing with Eddie. I thought that was funny where she's like, I practically tripped over your skates. He's like, I play hockey. She's like, those were figure skates. And I'm like, is there a big I guess there's probably a big enough difference between I wouldn't know the difference. I'd be like, oh, ice skates, whose are these?

SPEAKER_01

I mean, you should ask Brant. I bet he would know. I bet he would know. I'll ask you.

SPEAKER_00

I literally have no clue about any sports information.

SPEAKER_01

But I thought that was funny. You know more than that.

SPEAKER_00

I guess I know some. I probably know some. And then Joey basically like telling Eddie she wanted to have sex. I love how Katie said that. What? What would you have said? Yeah, same. It's better than say she wanted to, you know. You know, you know, but she's basically like, usually I don't want to, whatever. And he's like, Yeah, that's fine with me. She's like, no, that's not what I'm saying. And then she's like messing with his hand. That part, I don't know. It was just weird. It's just felt uncomfortable. I'm like, I don't want to hear this. He dies.

SPEAKER_01

I just didn't, it didn't even absorb into me because I am not. I wrote this on the next episode, but I will just say it now. Where did I what did I say it? I said, to be honest, I'm just kind of over these storylines.

SPEAKER_00

Like I'm kind of ready for the show to wrap up. Now, the only interesting one which wasn't in this episode is the Audrey storyline, which is kind of over that too.

SPEAKER_01

Like I just like how much more can we? I think I'm just done. Like, you can tell this is the last season. Yeah, you can just tell, like it has run its course, they're reaching, grasping at straws here, like it's time to be done. Like Dawson's Creek, they're too grown up, it's not the same anymore.

SPEAKER_00

They are, they're very grown up. Uh, did you agree with the professor on Joey when he wouldn't let her take her test? I did. Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

Now, back in the day, I would have been like, that asshole. But now I'm like, bitch, it's your fault. Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

You lose your scholarship, Will. Yeah. And not everybody like he has to treat everyone the same, which is what he was saying. Although the way they wrote it, it did make it seem like he was being overly vindictive, but he didn't be that way. But then he showed up at her work. I know. And he's like, I'm just here for a burger. And I'm like, No, you're not. No, you're kind of being a dick. Yeah. But the principle of it made sense. Um, and then Eddie punches him, which you know, all this all these men be punching. I don't know about that. And then I asked, Is ice skating

Professors, Punches, And Natasha Problems

SPEAKER_00

romantic? No, I don't think it is either. I don't want to do that.

SPEAKER_01

It's too cold.

SPEAKER_00

I'm about dying every time I've tried to ice skate. I'm clinging to a wall. Oh, yeah.

SPEAKER_01

I'm terrible at it.

SPEAKER_00

Falling on my butt, like it's cold.

SPEAKER_01

It's too cold. I don't like cold things. That's not romantic. Don't don't do anything cold with me if you try and be romantic.

SPEAKER_00

Don't take her on a ski date.

SPEAKER_01

Absolutely not. I'm not doing that. Also, I put Natasha big shock. She's a bitch. Big shock here.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah. I mean, big shock. Are we shocked by this? Later, I think in the next episode, I said Natasha's kind of a jerk.

SPEAKER_01

But yeah, but like, I'm not shocked. And then oh, also not shocked that Dawson can't let go because he's getting ass from a hot actress.

SPEAKER_00

He can't let go because the sex is good and she's hot. Which is basically what the director says to him. He's like, don't say anything, like just let it like run its course until it's a good thing. But eventually it's Dawson, so he can't, because he's it, he's still uh understandably. I'm not making fun of him for this. No, because it's bothering, it's bothering him, and he keeps trying to kind of push it down and he can't. Listen, I'd be the same way, Dawson. Yeah, yeah. I get it.

SPEAKER_01

I'm not that way.

SPEAKER_00

And then you already answered this, but I said, Do we like Emma and Pacey? No. No, stupid. I like Emma as a character. I just don't like her as like a romantic something.

SPEAKER_01

You know why I don't like it? Is because I don't like that they it's such an easy trope to fall into. Like they're roommates and now they're gonna like each other. Can they not just always be platonic? Yeah, can they always just be platonic? Because that is totally doable. Yeah, like just because you have a man and woman who like the opposite sex living in a space doesn't mean they can't not ever be attracted to each other.

SPEAKER_00

Right. No, I agree. I agree.

SPEAKER_01

It's annoying.

SPEAKER_00

That's why it annoyed me. Yeah, that is annoying. That's all I had on that episode. And then the next one is

Merry Mayhem And Christmas Nostalgia

SPEAKER_00

Mary Mayhem.

SPEAKER_01

That title's not that bad. I'll say that title's pretty good. Um, and here's a summary An out of control, Audrey brings Christmas dinner at the Leeries literally crashing down. Yes. I bet I know what you loved in the first few seconds is that Christmas Village they showed. I loved it. I know.

SPEAKER_00

And I said made me this whole episode. I was like watching, I watched this one really early this morning, and I was just like, oh, Christmas.

SPEAKER_01

Like Except they sure had it snowing a lot. And I'm like, they're only in North Carolina, and then I was like, wait, wait, wait, though. They're in Massachusetts in the ship. Massachusetts and the ship. Because I was like, what? It does not snow that much in Wilmington, North Carolina. And then I'm like, oh, wait, wait.

SPEAKER_00

And they show they're supposed to be in Massachusetts. So obviously. And you would want to like Christmas when you're up in Boston, probably Boston area, Massachusetts. Yeah. It just made me feel lots of nostalgia around this one because every time I would go home for Christmas, like for college and stuff, it was like snowing and cold and you know, big family gatherings, and just that nostalgia of like kind of that scene where they're all sitting at the table, and Audrey, which we'll get into, is sort of calling everyone out on everything. But that feeling where you're seeing all these people you don't normally see, and if you don't want to see them, same with friends, like meeting up with friends that you went to high school with or whatever. And so this whole episode, I don't know why. It just kind of got me like in my feels a little bit. There's something in your eyebrow. I could see it. I'm like, I'm I'm like, I'm emotional.

SPEAKER_01

I couldn't stop seeing it. I'm like, what is in her eyebrow? It's that eyebrow. Is it gone? Yeah. Oh. That eyebrow would be a problem. It always got something catching. I'm sorry. We got you in your fields. See, Christmas was not that way for me. Like, we don't have a big family. We don't have snow in Louisiana. Yeah. So I didn't get nostalgic per se because of the environment. And also, I'm just kind of over the show. Yeah, I guess you are. I mean, I love all the Christmas decor. I love me a Christmas decor. Like, and they had some good stuff up. They did. Um, but also my question, like Joey's dad's just there. Nobody says, like, why is there no backstory on how he got to be there?

SPEAKER_00

Right. Because correct me if I'm wrong. The last time we knew about him was when she was gonna go visit him at the store. Yeah, and then nothing. And nothing till he's at Christmas. Right. And there's no like explanation. It's just he's there all of a sudden. Yeah. Hello? And the baby's so grown. Right. Which I guess he would be. I I guess we're four years in or whatever. But like it was just so weird. Yeah, that was weird.

SPEAKER_01

I mean, yeah. I don't know. And then also, like, Audrey misses her flight. Like, wouldn't her parents like figure it out? Isn't she supposed to be rich?

SPEAKER_00

Yeah. When they just put her on another one. And I like her line when she said, I thought people only missed their flights in the movies. Like, I didn't know that was a real thing. Uh, you would think so, especially for Christmas. Right. But with everything she has going on, maybe she deliberately missed it, or maybe they were trying to and she was ignoring them, or who knows?

Pacey And Dougie’s Reality Check

SPEAKER_00

Uh, right away, Pacey sees so, in general, I liked the Pacey Dougie stuff in this episode. Yeah. I liked the conversations they had. I thought it was good when Dougie was like kind of calling him out on the job, and then he explained it well. Like, no, because he was like, Oh, no one can be happy for me. He's like, No, that's not it. But first thing off the bat, gay joke. Immediate. Now, spoiler alert. I know. And he's gay in the end. I thought of that as soon as I saw him, I'm like, oh, I think Danny told me by the end. And he had his cute little Christmas sweater. I know. He looks so cute.

SPEAKER_01

He ends up with Jack in the end.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, that's what I heard. That's I warned you guys, although the show's super old, so like there you go. But but overall, I thought that their interactions were good.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, and I mean, he has point, he has good point.

SPEAKER_00

And he was like, I was really proud of you when you were a chef. Because you were like doing something authentic and truthful and who you are and working hard. And now he's being like a sleazy, like yeah. But I get like why Pacey would come home with like all these in the car. Because this is a family who mostly all of them have sort of counted him out and always thought he was the disappointment or he was the one that never accomplished anything. So now he kind of has this foothold in life, per se, right? Just materialistically at least. So he wants to show that off. But I can see why, like, if that was one of my kids, I'd be like, Whoa, yeah, what's the Where what's happening? Where'd all this come from? What are you, you know? And even Dougie said, I'm not accusing you of doing anything wrong. I'm just wondering how much you know about where you work, which is setting it up to reveal something as she's that's what I figured. And we already know his um boss is like awful. So well, we'll see. Uh, let's see. Oh, the uh prayer that the director did at the Christmas table dying. Dead. Oh god, it was so funny. And he's like hitting on Gail during the prayer. They show Graham's face and she's like, I know.

SPEAKER_01

I was like, oh, I was wondering last few episodes where Jen's been. And then Audrey wasn't in the last one, right? But then I put another car car in the house TV moment.

SPEAKER_00

And no one, everyone's like, oh god, are you okay? And I'm like, hello, panic. There's a hole in your house and it's freezing outside. Also, where's Dawson's sister?

SPEAKER_01

What? Dawson's little sister. She was there, the baby was there.

Audrey’s Spiral And Loving Boundaries

SPEAKER_01

She was, okay. Like the first scene where Gail's like holding the baby, oh yeah, talking to the director as he's like pouring his drink.

SPEAKER_00

That's right. And then she must have been at the table and I just didn't see her. I think so. Okay, or maybe she's a baby, she was asleep. Could have been. Uh, let's see what else I have. Oh, um, when Audrey's going off on everyone at the Christmas table.

SPEAKER_01

It was very coherent for having been slock like slosh, drunk, and taking pain pills. Like you would not, as somebody who has witnessed a person at a holiday dinner with all of that, you cannot coherently speak the way she was speaking.

SPEAKER_00

No, she was very direct, though. Right. Um, and but I laughed when she said it was Mount Walton. Like this Mount Walton, you know, like the Walton feeling. Right. I thought that was really funny. Uh, let's see. Oh, I just said, like in the case of Audrey, because then Joey's trying to check in with her, and Jen's trying to check in with her and all the things. And I just said it's so hard when someone's struggling and they're pushing you away. Because your instinct is to be like, fine, uh I'll leave you alone, but those people need you, like some some. I mean, you have that's the hard part. You have to draw the boundary for yourself and your safety and your family's safety, but also them pushing you away, those are people that need help.

SPEAKER_01

But also, the only person who can help you is yourself in that kind of situation. And so, as somebody who has multiple loved ones in their life who have struggled with addiction and have had some holidays that look kind of like that, you can only do so much. Uh because really what it comes down to is they have to write if they don't recognize they have a problem, there ain't shit you can do. And a lot of times, even if you say to them, hey, something's going on, which happens on the episode, and they're like, No, I don't, whatever. It and you know, a lot of addicts will say, Yeah, I was the one until I realized you it doesn't really matter. I mean, people can be there, support you, and help you, but they're not gonna they ain't gonna be the one.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, I mean that's exactly true. That's so true, and it it's just hard to see. It is, it's hard to see. Absolutely awful. It's awful, awful. Uh, and I just said Natasha's kind of a jerk, which we already covered. Eddie's very cute. Oliver Hudson. She's like, I just gotta make sure y'all know that every episode he is cute, and and I thought that was very advanced thinking of him to first of all not want to come on Christmas. And I agreed with him when he told Joey why he shouldn't come. But then he shows up, which again, because she said she wanted a real tree. Remember that? Stupid. But um, looking adorable in his polar fleece with a tree strapped to the top of his car. It's a very hallmark movie. Very hallmark movie. That's why you like it. Open the door, it's snowing. Yeah, that's it. He's leaning against the

Eddie’s Tree Arrival And Dawson’s Dating Line

SPEAKER_00

car with the Christmas tree. Yep, all the things. We get you. So so then, of course, after all this table stuff, and then Joey's dad is kind of being a dick to him. He's like, see, this is stuff we sh so I don't know how I feel about that. Because I'm kind of like, this is someone that you're care about and are being intimate with, and this is who they really are and who the people in their life really are. I don't know, but then I kind of see what he's saying. Like, this is new and this is fun, like we don't need to be going through all this yet. I mean, yeah, it's a little fast in my opinion. Yeah. So she didn't go with him then and hung out with Dawson. I did think the part at the end was cute with Dawson and Joey because Natasha had left because she's a jerk. And he's like, I don't love, or she's like, I don't love you, and then he's like, I don't love you either. And she just like laughs kind of like a maniac. She's like, of course you're like, of course you don't.

SPEAKER_01

And I was like, oh. But you know what, Dawson? I'm with you. I can't be doing that casual stuff neither. I mean, I'm married, so obviously I'm not doing that. But like, I actually can't even when I was young and free, I had the hardest time doing that. So I get it. Some people just aren't cut out for that, some people aren't. Natasha apparently is, and I mean, some people, them and their their long-term partners are down with that.

SPEAKER_00

No, not you, some of us can't do it. We've established it is not you and Dawson. Look, me and Dawson have a similarity. Who knew? I know. I feel like his character arc is skewing more toward you. No, just that piece, just that one piece. And he's always been sort of a deep feeler, yes, like emotional and big heart and all those things, which is why we love him so much.

SPEAKER_01

I yeah, I mean, he it's also why he gets on my nerves, but same. Yeah, anyway. There you go. That's all I have for that's all I had too.

SPEAKER_00

So I guess we will um move on to what 11 and 12

Next Watch Center Stage And A Celebrity Sighting

SPEAKER_00

next week? Yeah, yeah. Oh, we forgot to say on our last on our main episode what we were doing for next week.

SPEAKER_01

We're watching center stage. Yes. Did you see that realize that you I know, yeah.

SPEAKER_00

I haven't watched that in a week. Excited. Obviously, there's some I mean, I know we're gonna find problematic stuff. There's some things that are problematic about the dance industry that are on there as problematic. So there's that. Right. But I think there'll be more beyond that than we're like realizing. The more I think about it. Great music, great dancing. I think the acting is fantastic. I was about to say some of the acting because they have real dancers. I told you how I saw Zoe Seldana in New York City. No. Oh, maybe I'll save save that. Okay, save it. So listen to that episode uh to hear. Did you talk to her? Uh sort of. Wait, just recently? When I was just there. So we were we the chaperones of the trip. No, why didn't you tell me when it happened? I just remembered. I mean, I just remembered. How dare! Yeah, yeah. I just remembered. It was the day the kids What do you mean you just remembered? It was the day that the kids played at Carnegie Hall. And literally after I saw her, we went into Carnegie Hall and turned off our phones and watched. And then I just never thought to tell you. That's crazy. Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

Let me tell you what, if I mean ever meet a celebrity, everybody's gonna be knowing two seconds after it happened. And I mean I didn't take a picture or anything.

SPEAKER_00

And I'll I'll tell you why. Do you want me to tell you, Dow? Okay, well just tell me it's a quick story. I'm not good with it. So all the parents at the chaproom were walking around. I will, we're walk because some people don't listen to Dawson's anyway. We're walking around Central Park because our kids were rehearsing in Carnegie Hall and it wasn't time for us to go watch yet. So we're just taking that little walk. So we're going to cross the street out of Central Park toward Carnegie Hall, and we're waiting. And half our parents crossed, and then the light turned. So the rest of us waited. And uh one of the other moms says to me and Sarah, Isn't that lady a movie star? I can't think of it. Oh my god. So it was like a cart, like a coffee cart. And she's standing there, it's she's talking. So she knows she's got that like raspy, very and she's got sunglasses on, her hair pulled back. She's in like jeans and a sweater, a golden doodle on a leash, and two of her kids. So she's taking her like coffee, has a dog and her children with her, and people, some kids were flocking around the dog. And she was she was saying, Oh, the dog's a little excited. We're we're actually not from here, we're from California. And then they started walking. And I'm like, I am not. While she's out walking her dog with her kids in Central Park, I'm gonna be like, Stop. Plus the light turned, and the other chaperones are like, What are you guys doing? And we're like, fine. I would have been like, excuse me, Gamora. Um, yeah. And you know, she's one of those people, she's gorgeous, but she looks this like she looked exactly the same in person. And some people don't, uh yeah, like exactly the same.

SPEAKER_01

I feel like, I feel like uh this I'm not putting myself and Zoe Zildania in the same category. I'm saying we actually not, because I feel like this is what I look like on a regular basis. When I am on stage and I put on all the makeup and the wigs and the hair, I look totally different. So I would be one of those celebrities who'd be like haggard in real life.

SPEAKER_00
