Welcome Back And The Game Plan
SPEAKER_01Hello everyone. Welcome back to our Dawson's Creek rewatch. Nearing the middle, I guess, of season six, the last season. I don't know. Nearing the middle. Whatever. I would have thought we were a lot farther along than we were. Today we're gonna talk about season six, episode five and six. So we're gonna jump right in because it's lunchtime and Katie's got a student in a bit. So uh episode five is called The Imposters. The summary is as Dawson goes all out to keep Natasha in the picture. Audrey is offered a chance to sing with Emma's band. Yes. I only wrote two notes. Really? Well, I was busy. I was watching, I was like um doing 80 things while I was trying to watch it. So okay.
Audrey’s Shame And Pacey Fallout
SPEAKER_00Well, do you want to just say them or do you want to just say them as they come up? Well, I'll just I said poor Audrey.
SPEAKER_01I just I feel for her with the like guilt and she's going through and not wanting to say anything to Pacey and then feeling weird around Pacey. Because that's what it is. I mean, it's it's trauma from and and I know she's feeling like shame, and I just feel bad for her. I just do.
Boilermakers And Theater Bar Stories
SPEAKER_00I agree with that. Um that on that end, yes, I think they did a good job of kind of portraying that, and that she maybe can't even quite put her finger on why, because if she could identify it, she could maybe do something about it. But um I liked that Joey asked for a boiler maker from the bar. Have you ever done a boiler maker?
SPEAKER_01No, my my mom or my stepdad, somebody used to order one of them.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, it's like a shot in a beer. But I don't know what that is.
SPEAKER_01I don't know.
SPEAKER_00I can't remember what it is.
SPEAKER_01But anyway, is it Jaeger? I feel like it's Jaeger in a beer. Yeah. No, that's a that's a that's a Jaeger bomb, I guess.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, you're right.
SPEAKER_01We don't know.
SPEAKER_00We don't know, but I thought it was funny. I should know what a boiler maker is. I hope Ben's not listening to this. Who? Ben uh oh, he if he is, he's so mad right now. But maybe he'll bring us a boiler maker. He's probably like, yeah, that's that chuck's Danny to know how to make something. Oh, right. Who cares if I don't? Well, right, I'm saying he's my bar manager. I know, but like, are people ordering boiler makers? Oh, you'd be surprised.
SPEAKER_01You would be surprised the weird stuff people order at a theater. Once people see we have a full bar, they they ask for everything. They get so excited. Oh, and they be like, asking for the crazy, you just I'm trying to, I can't think right now of the craziest thing I've been asked for, but it's like, really? You're coming to watch a show. They really want to enjoy their show. Like, we're we're a theater that has a bar, we're not a bar that has a theater.
SPEAKER_00I will say, I like, I mean, this isn't weird, a weird drink, but I like drinking wine, particularly when I'm at a show, because I am just kind of stuck there quietly enjoying what I'm watching. Well, not hopefully like laughing and cheering and all those things, but like it's just a relaxing time. Even at all, I love me a drink. I'm saying even if I have wine like at home, it's like, oh, I gotta do this, or I gotta like even in a show, I'm not looking at my phone. Yeah, because you're not distracted by doing anything else, and I can like I feel like I actually enjoy my drink.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, well, and I mean to be fair, we do call the bar at the theater the third show because we have themed drinks. Oh, yeah. Most everybody that works behind there is chatty, and like you know what's the second show? Well, front of house is usually the second show. Oh okay, because you know, they're that's who you see when you come in and who you interact with when you walk through the door. That makes sense.
Directors Professors And Other Messes
SPEAKER_00I've never heard that before, but that makes sense. Yeah, I love that. Okay, so Boilermaker, and then Oliver Hudson, of course, as the adorable bartender, and I talked about this last time. Him and the girl who plays Natasha are actually married on rules of engagement. Then the Oliver, who's not Oliver Hudson, the Oliver, the director. Right. Remember how I really didn't like him? I know. I kind of like him now. Okay, well he's growing on me. He is. I think he's kind of supposed to be one of those characters, you know. I think you're right. Yeah, I think they did that right then. Yeah. Uh then Jack and the professor thing is back. And is still here. Is he punishing Jack with bad grades because he did not? I think we're supposed to think that. I think he is. Whether he is or not, I don't know. I think he is. Yeah. Oh my goodness, my phone hasn't rang this whole time, but it also hasn't been near me. Okay, there we go. Um, oh, Audrey walking into that stockbroker room.
SPEAKER_01That was so funny.
SPEAKER_00That was really funny. Just like barreling in there. I know. I thought that was really good. You know what it reminded me of? Remember the one they were in college where Jen walks into the fraternity house in the boots, yes, and they're like playing pool or whatever. That scene with Audrey like walking into like all the men in suits and her like dress and her hair and her makeup and whatever shoes. I don't know. I just thought it was really fun. What an entrance. Like is what I was thinking. I can't get right with this table, guys. I missed what do we think of Audrey's rendition of the Mamas and the Papa song? Dead on the floor. Hilarious. So good. I loved like when she was singing in the shower. I was like, oh, she sounds so good. I love the punk rock version.
SPEAKER_01That was pretty good. There's a um, so our British friend Hannah, yes, you know Hannah. Hannah, hi Anna. Um, her and her husband told me about this group, and now the name has escaped me. But it's a punk rock group that does Disney covers. Oh, fun. And it is, they are so fun and so good. I'll I'll I'll circle back to this next week.
SPEAKER_00Make sure you tell us. Anyways. Um Eddie, who's Oliver Hudson's character in Joey in class discussing Lolita. Ugh. Yeah. Oh, what a book. What a book. Who would make you read that at this point? No. No, thank you. And then I said, wait, Eddie isn't a student? That's a weird plot. I don't know. Two.
SPEAKER_01I don't love his whole storyline.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, it's strange.
SPEAKER_01It's strange. Like, I feel like I feel like mo a lot of these episodes in this last season, I'm like, yeah, you can tell this is like the end. The end. Yeah, yeah. You know how when shows are like, okay, they've lived their life.
SPEAKER_00It's and then like, you know, the Dawsons with a movie star or like I know, I know. It was kind of a lot. I liked Audrey's nose ring.
unknownYeah.
SPEAKER_00Like her, yeah, that was.
SPEAKER_01I had a fake nose ring when I was in high school. Oh. Because I wanted to my mom would not let me get one. My mom was pretty chill about like what I wore and like my hair and makeup. Like, she didn't care if I dyed my hair and stuff. But um, she cut the line at uh at body piercings. I did get my belly button pierced in in the trailer. I got my tattoo. That's right. The trailer. She never knew about it. That's amazing. Which I do not know how I hit it, but I did. And um, but the nose piercing I never got, so I had a fake one. And I loved it. And I I don't get one now because I'm like, it'd be a pain with performing, having to take it out, and then like it'd be cute though.
SPEAKER_00I know. Um, okay, so then Joey is outside again alone. I'm like, hello, do not learn your lesson. And no one else is outside. How does she always find the street where there's literally no one else? I don't know. But she's outside Eddie's place to have a conversation with Eddie. So I I'm telling you, guys, Katie is on.
SPEAKER_01I promise I will eat. She goes, she said, after this, I'm booked from one o'clock till seven with no time to eat. 7 30. That's not okay. Like you have to make time to eat.
SPEAKER_00Normally, so I used to have a break at three, a half hour break. And then there's one of my students who's in a show, and literally it's the only time I can fit them in. And it's temporary, but it is today. You still have to find time to eat. You still have to find time.
SPEAKER_01Like that's a basic human need.
SPEAKER_00It is. I'm just saying.
SPEAKER_01No, you're right. If your work is getting in the way of you meeting your basic human needs, I'm I will say it's not every day.
SPEAKER_00Not that that's an excuse, but like yesterday, I ate plenty. Doesn't matter. That's not how bodies work.
SPEAKER_01Tomorrow, same. You know, if you fill your gas tank up yesterday and then you drive all around, guess what? The gas goes away.
SPEAKER_00You can't um but not load food. I know, I know. I wish I could be like a squirrel or something and just like do it once. It's such a hassle. It's such a hassle.
SPEAKER_01It's not, it's not okay. Well, right, she's gonna eat, don't worry.
SPEAKER_00And then I said, What do we think of Professor Jack's gay conversation? I don't really know which one this was, but I put it toward the end, so it must have been at the end of the episode. The guy has issues, yeah. And I guess it's I guess it was the conversation where they're outside. I think they're outside by like a coffee cart or something. And Jack calls him out on something. Well, he's like, You he's I don't know. Basically, what we've already talked about. Jack is like, hey, dude, like, get your shit together. And then the guy's like, Well, you don't know because you're from a different generation, or you're you know, and Jack is like, well, that's bullshit. Like, yeah, yeah, yeah. So that was a whole thing.
Halloween Episode And The Ghost Prank
SPEAKER_01All right, let's go to episode six. Okay, season six is the Halloween episode. Yay! Uh episode six is called Living Dead Girl. Um, already worried that a ghost is haunting the set. Ooh, which is like the most tacky looking ghost I've ever seen. Um Dawson suspects Todd and Natasha of rekindling their affair. Now, I when did it ever kindle? So they mentioned it briefly.
SPEAKER_00I don't remember that they I feel like they dated before her and Dawson. Okay, okay, okay. Like, like not even dated, like hooked up. Oh, all right. And then later, and because he the director mentioned something about that being awkward in a previous episode. I missed it. I don't think it was like a long-term relationship or anything, but um, I did put Halloween episode last one sad. Oh, I love these Halloween episodes. I love I love the Halloween episodes. They're so good.
SPEAKER_01The only thing that I didn't like in this episode, I put why is Joey babysitting for her teacher she doesn't like.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, that well, didn't she make a deal with him? Why did I miss so many things? Yeah, she she's Henry. Remember what I just put Joey's deal with the professor. I forget what it was, but in exchange for something, she agreed to do a favor for him. And I guess that was the favor. Okay, I guess I missed it to like take his daughter out on Halloween or whatever. Guess I missed it. Yeah, but that but then again, I don't remember what it was, but it was something like that. Again, all these personal interactions with professors, this has not happened in real life. Um, to be out and about with strangers. Whatever. Um, I said that Pacey and Audrey's punk look was cute. It was cute, and Pacey's hair all like delled and spiky. That was really, really cute. And Jen's goth look where she had like the wig with the little pigtails. Oh my god, that was adorable.
SPEAKER_01Jack as a vampire was good, really good.
SPEAKER_00Come on. The looks were good. Lost boys vibes here for it so much so much for it. Um, and yeah, so she had that deal with the professor, and then I just liked the costume party aesthetic. It was really, really fun.
Haunted House Problems And Party Dreams
SPEAKER_01But then I said, What is this weird haunted house they took that girl to? It was weird. It was weird, it was weird, and then i Joey, or one of them said retarded, and I was like, Joey did, yeah, it was Joey.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, I was like, oh, it was like almost painful. I was like, don't I know. And this is like later in the series. I feel like too late to be saying that stuff. Um, I said Joey walking Hudson's daughter through things. That was a haunted house. Oh, okay. That's what we're talking about. And it was weird. Yeah, it was weird. Um, and then, well, before I realized the prank and everything, I said, should can Dawson be jealous of Natasha and the director. He shouldn't be. Yeah. But you could, I think the whole point was for us to see that he was feeling that way.
SPEAKER_01No. I don't like I don't like the Natasha storyline either. It feels so forced to me. It does. And they don't, I don't feel like they have good chemistry. I think you're right. I just I think it's not like I don't know. Yeah. Her and the director guy, they feel like I like do, but her and Dawson just don't seem to I don't know. Yeah, it's not meshing. It's not meshing. I also wrote like the Halloween party, like that that that they were having. I was like, oh, I love crazy Halloween parties. And I put, I think I need to have one. Like, I think I need to do that. I didn't do that this year because we went to OP's house. Okay. Oh, that's fun. Yeah. And um, I can nobody does Halloween better than OP, Avi. But yes, I he wins. But I was like, oh, maybe I should have one this year.
SPEAKER_00Maybe I shall. That'd be really fun. We'll see. Instead of New Year's Eve. No, do both. Do both. Are they too close together for planning on your part? Because that's a lot of people. I'm not doing a Christmas show this year. That's true. So you have a little more time. And you're staying home for Thanksgiving. Are you traveling? No, no. You're staying home. We don't travel during holidays. Yeah. So good. Okay. So maybe this could work out really well.
SPEAKER_01I mean, it will not be, it will not be on the scale of New Year's Eve, guys.
SPEAKER_00Well, I feel like what's good about Halloween parties is the costume is part of it. I know, it's so fun. Yeah, New Year's Eve too, people dress up and stuff, and that's part of the fun and the aesthetic. But I feel like costume parties, of course, you still have to have like snacks and stuff like that. But especially if people brought something. I'm not doing that again.
SPEAKER_01I've learned my lesson in New Year's. There was too much left. No, there was not enough food of the right kind. It was like 6,000 bags of chips. So I shall not be doing that again. I'm gonna be like, I'm ordering pizza. If you want to bring a dessert, great. If not, fine, I don't care.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, because there's some like fun Halloween desserts you can make. That's that doesn't mean people will, but I'm just gonna be plenty of candy too. But whatever. Plenty. Yeah, it'll be fine.
SPEAKER_01It'll be learned by New Year's Eve.
SPEAKER_00We're gonna just gonna do some kind of cater to something.
SPEAKER_01I love that. I'm not doing it.
SPEAKER_00I did say sad about Audrey Pacey, her trauma slash guilt, because then they have the little breakup moment outside the party. I know. I know, and in their costumes too. I don't know. It was just very emotional. Breakups are hard, but I mean, yeah. On one hand, maybe they do need to. I I guess it's both, because they do need to because she is working through something. I know, but he doesn't but on the other hand, he doesn't know that. I know, and in some cases, the person your your partner or whatever can help you, or at least understand, or give you space or whatever you need, but if they don't know.
SPEAKER_01I know, and I remembered, I remembered watching this that she does go through some other hard things that are coming. Oh no, Audrey.
SPEAKER_00No, I know she's like the ray of sunshine. I know, I know, but I guess also I mean they've been building up all season.
SPEAKER_01She's not going to class, she's got bad grades.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. All the things, all the telltale coming. But anyway, and it is coming. I'm trying to think what else I wrote.
Breakup Beats Jealousy And Wrap-Up
SPEAKER_01I just, it's basically like I said, I put Dawson and Natasha, okay, WTF, and now he's into her. Like he was so into Joey and broke up with her now that he's not with Joey, he's like, actually, just Natasha. Um, what did you think of like their prank on him?
SPEAKER_00The I thought it was funny, and I knew it was a prank. As soon as they saw the little clip in the in the reels or whatever they were watching, or the dailies, I was like, oh yeah, there and the funniest cinematic part was toward the end when he's going down the catwalk toward her, and you can see it's Natasha, and it's like almost like a comically long, a comic amount of times that they go back and forth between them that you're like, it's Natasha, it's Natasha and a horrible wig. Horrible wig, and they put sunglasses on her. It's like still, it was yeah, that was funny, and then I'm sure it doesn't because it's a Halloween episode, so it's kind of encapsulated within itself. I know some of the storylines are overarching, but I said, Does the ending mean anything with the axe? Oh. The very ending, there's like um Oh, I think it was just like a pfft.
SPEAKER_01Well, it was because that's how it started. That was the scene they were filming. Oh, you're right.
SPEAKER_00So it's a bookend. Yes, I was just like, did someone die? And I'm like, this is silly. No one died.
SPEAKER_01No, it was just how they started.
SPEAKER_00Well, so far I do, I will say, like you said, some of the storylines are a little grasping, but I do like season six so far. Yeah, I think. Well, and we know it's ending, we know it's coming to a close. Yeah. And I think like going to college helped like the storyline. You know what I mean? I was getting a little sick of Capeside. What else can you do? How many creeks can you ride down in your canoe? In your canoe. Oh my gosh. I feel like when we do get to the end, we'll have to do that like final episode. I think we should listen to our first episode. Oh no, okay. Or even release like one extra, like do the finale episode and then just have a bonus that's like our first episode recording sandwich with our last hilarious just to have out there. Hilarious. I think that'd be really fun. But anyway, all right, guys. Well, I hope you're enjoying Dawson's Creek as much as us. And uh, we will see you next time here for our Dawson's Creek read watch, I can't speak, uh, here on Generation in Between. Bye guys, uh
